She sits near the window, eyeing
the swing in their backyard. She stares at it for hours like a kid wanting to
be cradled. Then, tears would start to roll down her face. She would just
let them all roll down her face as she still relentlessly stares at the swing.
After few minutes, she tries to calm herself down, she wipes her entire face,
but then, she sobs again. It’s undeniable; she's drowned in the memories. She
was left wondering why all of a sudden this happened.
Few years ago, she met this guy; she would
prefer to call him the real man. She eventually fell in love with him,
the same way as “the real man” is to her. Joys and sorrows were together faced.
They even promised each other to always be by each other’s side no matter what
and to be each other’s forever. They can already see their future as a happy
couple with kids. They've never imagined of losing each other.
But one day, the guy who used to be the real
man turned out to be the worst guy in her eyes. He left her alone, torn, broken
into pieces. Surely, she couldn’t make a sense of what happened to them. It’s
like she’s having her worst nightmare after her sweetest dream. She was so
hurt. Pain caused her to change; changed her life’s and love’s point of view.
Well, as quoted by John Green, “That’s the
thing about pain, it demands to be felt.” Yes, he’s right. But, pain makes us tougher
as time goes by. It is not easy to forgive someone who has hurt us so much,
especially emotionally, but we can learn to forgive them though it takes time. Often
times, we find it hard to forgive someone because we’re too afraid that they
may hurt us again. Let’s admit it, we sometimes create a question at the back
of our minds “Why do they keep on hurting me?” I guess it’s time to realize, instead,
let’s ask ourselves why are we allowing them to? Forgiving doesn't mean that the
pain is gone, it also may not change your past but it may change your future. So,
let’s let go of what’s bitter and move on.
I was waiting for their happy ending, but it
seems like happy endings are stories that haven’t ended yet. Now, their story
has ended. I can’t deny, until now, I’m affected.
